The new refreshed Jeep Renegade SUV has been spotted for the first time in South America. The Jeep Renegade is the entry-level product from the house of the iconic American SUV brand. The Renegade is the company’s smallest and cheapest offering which was introduced in 2014. It is currently on sale in many global car markets. As has been getting reported for quite some time, Jeep India is preparing to launch the Renegade quite soon in the country. The Renegade will be the next locally manufactured product in India and will be cheaper than the existing Jeep Compass. Thus, the Renegade will help enhance the footprint of the Jeep brand in India by reaching to a wider base of buyers with its more affordable pricing. The Renegade facelift model, which will make its world premiere towards the end of 2018, will also come to India at a later date.
Coming back to the refreshed Jeep Renegade SUV, it will be getting quite a few updates on its front fascia. It will get neo-retro styling on its face which is similar to the original Jeep Renegade that was a version of the CJ3 back in the ‘70s. Nevertheless, from the test prototype model nothing much can be figured out, as it was caught covered in thick veils, especially on the vehicle’s front façade. Recently, it was indicated that the new generation Jeep Wrangler, which made its world debut at the 2017 LA Motor Show, would be an inspiration to the other Jeep models in terms of styling. Although not so hard-core and traditional looking, it is said that the new updated Renegade might get a new nose which is reminiscent of the new-gen Wrangler.
If this is really true, then the Renegade facelift would get a new radiator grille and headlight design complete with LED elements. It is also expected that new grille of the Renegade facelift could slightly slant towards the top similar to that on the Wrangler to offer improved aerodynamics. When the side profile is concerned, no changes could be noticed on the test prototype model. Nevertheless, mild changed to the side cladding and new alloys can be safely expected. At the rear, there will also be minor changes such as tweaked tail light clusters with new LED inserts and a bolder revised rear bumper.
When mechanical specifications are concerned, the India-bound Jeep Renegade is expected to get equipped with a 2.0 litre diesel and a 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol engine options. Both FWD and AWD system versions are likely to be offered in the Indian market.
Post its Indian launch, the Jeep Renegade will fight it out with the likes of the highly popular Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and the upcoming Nissan Kicks. At present, Jeep India is negotiating with suppliers for the heavy localization of the Renegade, so that it can be priced highly competitively. Renegade is expected to get a localization level of up to 65 percent initially, which is planned to increase up to 80 percent later on.
