South Korean automaker Kia is getting all braced to introduce its first offering in India in 2019. Kia’s first vehicle model in its Indian portfolio will be a compact SUV model based on the SP Concept, which made its world premiere at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo in February.
The new upcoming Kia SP Concept based SUV model is being developed specifically keeping the Indian market in mind, but it won’t be an India exclusive model. It is thought to be launched first in the Indian car market, which would be soon followed by its international market launch in various off-shore markets including China, North America and Australia.
As per the recent reports, the production ready model of the SP Concept SUV is most likely to break cover at the upcoming 2019 New York Auto Show, which is scheduled to be held in April. According to the reports, the new upcoming Kia SP Concept based compact SUV will be slightly different in its Indian version as compared to its global-spec model.
The compact SUV will be above 4 meters of length and will be of premium quality with an up-class, feature rich cabin. The SP Concept based SUV is expected to boast of a segment-first digital instrument cluster, colour-coded interiors and a large touchscreen integrated infotainment unit.
The new SP Concept based compact SUV will come with an aggressively styled exterior design. The vehicle will offer a proper SUV stance along with high style quotient to make it an urban vehicle, while it will be fitted with off-road features in order to make it capable of beating the dusty tracks.
Kia being the sister concern of Hyundai, which is India’s second largest automaker, is aiming to gaining great success in the country. The South Korean car manufacturing company has already chalked out a product aggressive strategy for India. Kia plans to introduce as many as 6 models in the Indian domestic car market by 2022, and intends to have a representative in all the popular segments of the Indian car market to maximize its sales.
Coming back to the Kia SP Concept based SUV, post its India launch, the compact SUV model will be locking its horns with its cousin – the highly successful Hyundai Creta apart from other models including the upcoming Nissan Kicks. The Kia SUV’s indirect rivals will include models like the Renault Duster and Maruti Suzuki S-cross, which belong to a lower price slab. The SP Concept based compact SUV will be made available in both petrol and diesel versions along with manual and automatic transmission options as well.
Kia Motors India has recently announced that the company will be commencing the trial production at its Ananthpur manufacturing plant in January, 2019.
The upcoming Kia SP Concept based SUV is expected to hit the car market of India sometime in the second half of 2019, and the company has already confirmed that the vehicle will have a price range of around Rs. 10 lakhs to Rs. 16 lakhs.
