In this September 2022 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all sedans in India. Where applicable, we’ll also include our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all sedans for the last 6 months will give you an idea about their 6-month sales trend.
Sedans September 2022 Car Sales - YoY Change
- The Dzire maintained its top spot among sedans in September 2022.
- It looks like even in the foreseeable future, the Dzire will remain the only sedan to achieve a 5-figure monthly sales figure.
- Among the smaller sedans, the Dzire witnessed a 348% YoY gain, making it the top gainer.
- The Tigor was the second best gainer with 184% YoY gains in September.
- All mass-market cars saw an increase in dispatch numbers in YoY comparison for the month of September.
- On the other hand, premium sedans like Skoda Octavia and Superb saw a YoY decline, 35% for the former and about 10% for the latter. These are the only two sedans to see any decline in sales in YoY comparison.
- Hyundai Elantra, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid were discontinued over the past year by their respective manufacturers.

Sedan Segment September 2022 Car Sales - MoM Change
- Most sedans saw a decline in their sales numbers in the month of September over August
- Volkswagen Virtus was the overall top gainer in September MoM comparison, with a gain of 128%
- Among the MoM losers, the Slavia was at the top with a 52% decline; Dzire in second spot with 19% decline; and Ciaz in third place with 10.3% decline in September of 2022
- The Mahindra E-Verito and Volkswagen Vento posted 0 sales in the month of September 2022
