Honda Cars India have secured E20 compliance certificates for the 2025 Elevate, City, City Hybrid and the new Amaze 2025. Honda secured the certification ahead of the roll out of E20 fuel across the country by April 1, 2025. Honda say their latest achievement highlights their commitment to sustainable mobility and supporting India’s transition to greener and cleaner transportation.

What Is E20 Petrol?

E20 fuel is a blend containing 20% anhydrous ethanol and 80% petrol. Ethanol’s cleaner combustion compared to petrol leads to reduced emissions. However, a major concern with E20 is the corrosive nature of ethanol. Ethanol readily absorbs moisture from the air, which can damage rubber, plastic, and certain metal components in vehicles not designed for E20. This corrosion can significantly impact engine performance and longevity.

Are Older Honda Cars E20 Compatible?

Yes, Honda say older cars manufactured in India from January 1, 2009 are E20 compliant. These include models such as the Brio, Jazz, WR-W, Mobilio, BR-V, CR-V, Civic, Accord and previous generations of the City and Amaze sedans. Customers can freely use E20 petrol in their existing Honda cars and SUVs without durability concerns or need of changing any part in the car.

Speaking on the latest achievement, Mr. Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd. said:

“At Honda Cars India, we are committed to driving sustainable mobility solutions and all our cars have been E20 material compatible since Jan 2009 enabling our customers to seamlessly adopt the greener E20 fuel without any modifications. The latest compliance certification for all our current models ahead of the pan India E20 fuel introduction aligns with the Government of India’s goal to implement greener fuels. As India moves towards a cleaner and more sustainable future, HCIL will continue to remain at the forefront.”
