Kia have begun testing the 2nd-generation Sonet in India ahead of its expected launch in 2027. The latest spy shots of the upcoming B2-segment SUV reveals several changes to its exterior design.

Codenamed QY2E, the new Sonet is expected to get a significant redesign. It will also move to the enhanced version of the K1 platform, which underpins the Kia Syros and Hyundai Venue. Here’s what the latest spy shots reveal about the upcoming Kia SUV.
The latest test mule of the 2027 Sonet is covered in camouflage. However, its revised front end design is partially visible. The new Sonnet appears to get a slimmer grille with a honeycomb mesh pattern, while the front lighting setup adopts a split headlamp layout.

The mail LED headlamps are positioned lower down on the bumper, while the LED daytime running lamps (DRLs) sit above them. The DRLs feature a boomerang-like design, similar to the lighting signature seen on the latest Kia SUVs.
The test mule also appears to feature camera hardware integrated into the outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs), along with a dedicated camera for ADAS.
The latest spy shots suggest revised front and rear doors, along with changes to the body structure. Its enhanced K1 platform could also allow Kia to offer a longer wheelbase to improve rear legroom.

Other visible details include roof rails and a shark fin antenna. Previous spy shots have also revealed a new alloy wheel design. The upcoming Sonet is expected to retain 16-inch alloy wheels.
At the rear, the new Sonet is expected to feature slimmer LED tail lamps with a boomerang-like lighting signature. Unlike some recent SUVs, the tail lamps do not appear to be connected by a full width light bar. The rear bumper also looks more aggressively styled, while the high-mounted stop lamp appears wider than before.

Previous spy shots of the 2nd-generation Sonet revealed a curved dual-screen dashboard layout, similar to the setup seen in the Syros and Seltos. The new SUV could get two 12.3-inch displays, one each for the infotainment system and digital driver’s display. The dashboard is also expected to feature a more minimalistic design with revised materials and finishes.
Expected features include ventilated front seats, a powered driver’s seat, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, an auto-dimming IRVM and a premium audio system. A sliding and reclining rear seat could also improve cabin flexibility.
The presence of camera hardware on the test mule also suggests the new Sonet could offer Level-2 ADAS.

At launch, the new Sonet is expected to retain the current model’s 1.2L non-turbo petrol, 1L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engine options.
The existing manual and automatic transmission options are also likely to continue. However, Kia could introduce a strong-hybrid powertrain at a later stage, possibly in 2028 or 2029.
The new Kia Sonet is expected to make its debut in India in 2027. It is likely to command a premium over the current model, which is priced between Rs. 8 lakh and Rs. 15.83 lakh (ex-showroom).
Once launched, the new Sonet will continue to compete in the B2-segment SUV space against the Hyundai Venue, Kia Syros, Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. It will also face competition from the next-generation Tata Nexon, which is currently under development.
With a new platform, revised exterior styling and a more modern cabin, the second-generation Sonet could bring substantial changes to Kia’s most affordable SUV.
