BMW have opened bookings for the new i5 LWB. Interested customers can register their interest through the BMW India website or at the nearest BMW dealership.
The i5 LWB will be locally produced at the company’s plant in Chennai. It becomes BMW’s first made-in-India electric sedan and its second locally produced electric car after the iX1 LWB.
BMW already sell the standard-wheelbase i5 M60 xDrive as a fully imported model. It is currently priced from Rs. 1.20 crore. BMW are yet to announce the i5 LWB’s price or launch date.

The i5 LWB gets an 81.6kWh battery pack. BMW claim a range of up to 669km on the MIDC test cycle. BMW have stated that the i5 LWB’s electric motor develops 272PS and accelerates from 0-100kmph in 6.7 seconds. The company have not revealed the torque output or drivetrain configuration yet.
BMW have also confirmed an adaptive rear-axle air suspension. The India-spec i5 LWB gets increased ground clearance to better suit local road conditions, although BMW have not revealed the actual ground clearance figure.

BMW claim it is the largest and longest sedan in its segment and offers the segment’s most spacious rear cabin.
Here are the dimensions of the BMW i5 LWB:
The long wheelbase is primarily aimed at improving rear-seat space and comfort, putting greater emphasis on chauffeur-driven use than the standard-wheelbase i5 M60.

BMW will introduce the i5 LWB with a special First Edition limited to 99 customers.
The First Edition adds a dedicated rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and tablet holder.

Other exclusive details include:

BMW are yet to reveal prices for the i5 LWB. The company currently sell the imported i5 M60 xDrive at Rs. 1.20 crore. Local production should give BMW more flexibility when pricing the i5 LWB.
The i5 LWB does not currently have a like-for-like long-wheelbase electric sedan rival. Its petrol-powered 5 Series LWB sibling primarily competes with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB.
