Let’s first look at the prices of both the cars for the petrol-manual powertrain.
With the petrol-manual powertrain, the Maruti Suzuki Alto’s prices start at Rs. 3.54 lakh and top out at Rs. 4.56 lakh. The Maruti Suzuki Celerio’s petrol-manual range costs between Rs. 5.82 lakh and Rs. 6.58 lakh.
The Alto is not available with a petrol-automatic transmission. The Celerio’s 3 petrol-automatic variants cost between Rs. 6.37 lakh and Rs. 7.13 lakh.

The 1 CNG-manual variant of the Maruti Suzuki Alto costs Rs. 5.13 lakh. The Celerio CNG-manual is available in 1 variant with an ex-showroom price of Rs. 6.72 lakh.
The Alto and the Celerio are not available with CNG-automatic powertrains.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto and the Maruti Suzuki Celerio are both hatchbacks. The Alto is 3445mm long, 1515mm wide and 1475mm tall. The Alto’s wheelbase is 2360mm long. The Celerio measures 3695mm long, 1655mm wide and 1555mm tall and has a wheelbase measuring 2435mm. In terms of dimensions, the Maruti Suzuki Alto is significantly smaller than the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. So, the Celerio will offer a stronger road presence than the Alto.
The Alto has a ground clearance of 160mm while the Celerio has a ground clearance of 170mm. The 177-litre boot space of the Alto is 136 litres smaller than that of the Celerio.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto is available with a 0.8L normal petrol engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine makes 48PS of power at 6000rpm and 69Nm of torque at 3500rpm.
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is available with a 1.0L normal petrol engine, which is available with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT automatic transmission. The Celerio’s 1.0L normal petrol engine makes 66PS of power at 5500rpm and 89Nm of torque at 3500rpm.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto is available with a 0.8L normal CNG engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine makes 41PS of power at 6000rpm and 60Nm of torque at 3500rpm.
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is only available with a 1.0L normal CNG engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine makes 57PS of power at 5300rpm and 82Nm of torque at 3400rpm.
