In this article, we’ll take a look at the new 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift’s launch prices and compare them with our expected prices to see how close (or off) we were from our estimates. This will help us better understand Maruti Suzuki’s pricing strategy and that of other upcoming cars with similar body style in this price range.

The following table presents the comparison between our expected prices and the launch prices of the 2024 Maruti Swift along with the deviation in each case:
*We consider <5% as a passing grade and <1% deviation as achieving a distinction. More than 5% deviation is a failure in our books.

Now, let’s examine the launch and expected prices in a little more detail.
As you can see, most of the prices are quite close to our estimations but in none of the cases, we managed to achieve a distinction. That means, none of our Swift 2024 expected prices came within 1% of the launch price. On the positive side, none of our Swift price estimates were off enough to end up with more than 5% deviation from the launch prices.
Some of you might remember that Maruti Suzuki increased the prices of the Swift in April 2024. Now, this is a sneaky way to help the buyers ease into the new car’s high prices. This way, the new Swift will come across as only mildly more expensive than the old Swift even though it will end up carrying a considerable premium over the Swift’s March 2024 prices.
For instance, the Swift LXI was retailing for Rs. 5,99,499 in March and the new Swift ends up almost Rs. 50,000 pricier. That’s a massive 8%+ increase. It’s greatly justified with the addition of several standard features but it still requires some easing for the buyers.
The price increase didn’t affect the actual buyers of the old Swift as the dealers could continue to sell the old Swift at effectively the older prices with some additional discounts. But for most buyers, ex-showroom price is the most crucial thing to pay attention to. And from that point, it appears that the 2024 Swift is only some Rs. 25,000.
Part of that price jump is also justifiable with the more fuel efficient engine. With up to 14% better mileage figures, the Swift 2024 will certainly lower your fuel costs than the older model. And Maruti Suzuki have the right to ask for some of those savings upfront in the form of a higher asking price.
Only time will tell if these prices are sustainable or not to maintain high production volumes, like what the Swift has maintained in the past.
Considering the high efficiency engine of the new Swift, it was surprising to see that the car didn’t come with a CNG powertrain. We expect Maruti to test this engine with the CNG fuel and bring it to market in the next 6-8 months with the Dzire. Soon after, the Swift should also get this option.
Given the sporty nature of the Swift hatchback and a growing acceptance for turbo petrol, we expected Maruti to offer their new 1.0L turbo petrol engine in the Swift 2024. Unfortunately, it isn’t available with the new hatchback and instead, they have taken the efficiency path as the new brand image for their “hot” hatch.
