We have just received information from our source regarding the tentative launch timeline of the Maruti Swift CNG. Along with a marketing collateral, our source with more knowledge about the matter confirmed to us that the Swift CNG will go on sale sometime next week (September 9-15, 2024).
This timeline aligns well with the festive dates as Maruti Suzuki are unlikely to announce the prices during the period of Shradh/Pitru Paksha (September 17- October 2, 2024). This time is considered as inauspicious in the Hindu culture, while the following period of Navratri (October 3-12, 2024) is considered highly auspicious for shopping.
Thus, we can expect the deliveries of the new Swift CNG to align with the Navratri and begin around October 3, 2024. Such a move will also help Maruti Suzuki test the CNG powertrain well enough to have it ready by the time the next-generation Dzire is up for launch in January 2025.

The Swift 2024 brought with it a new 3-cylinder 1.2L normal petrol engine. This is the first time this engine will get the CNG bi-fuel option. Eventually, we expect Maruti Suzuki to flood their 4-cylinder 1.2L petrol cars with this new engine as it's more fuel efficient and helps cut material costs with its 3-cylinder layout. In terms of power and torque, you can expect some dip compared to the Swift petrol as it’s common for all CNG cars.
As it’s common for Maruti CNG cars, we expect the Swift CNG to come in all variants except for the Swift base model and Swift top model. Here, that means VXI, VXI (O) and ZXI. Maruti Suzuki charge Rs. 90,000 for a factory-fit CNG bi-fuel kit with the Baleno. Since the Swift operates in the same price band, we expect the Swift CNG to also carry a similar price premium over the petrol-manual powertrain.

Since the new Swift is failing to attract the kind of attention and buyers it usually gets, the addition of CNG fuel option will also help Maruti Suzuki increase the production numbers to help it initiate the chain reaction of “jo dikhta hai, woh bikta hai”.
