Mercedes-AMG To Launch SL 55 Roadster On June 22 | V3Cars

At the start of 2023, Mercedes-Benz India revealed it would launch 10 new cars in the top-end luxury segment this year. The German carmaker kickstarted its launch spree with the E 53 AMG cabriolet in January and followed it up with the GT 63 S E Performance in April. Now, Mercedes-AMG have revealed the launch date of their next offering for India – the SL 55 Roadster. When launched, the SL 55 will become the second convertible AMG model on sale in the country.

Mercedes-Benz India are all set to bring back the popular SL nameplate. The carmaker will launch the SL in its sporty AMG 55 guise on June 22. Despite having a small form factor, the SL offers a 2+2 seating configuration and a convertible soft-top.

The new SL looks a lot sleeker and sportier than the earlier generations. It comes with a low-set AMG Panamericana grille flanked by slim LED headlights. Around the side, the SL comes with large doors to offer an easy ingress and egress for all passengers. Furthermore, it gets air ducts placed on the fenders and 19-inch AMG alloy wheels. At the rear, the SL 55 gets quad exhaust pipes, an active spoiler and slim LED tail lights.

On the inside, the biggest detail of the SL 55 is its power-adjustable 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The vertically-oriented touchscreen system offers tilt adjustment to reduce unwanted reflections when driving with the roof open. Furthermore, the SL 55 offers a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an AMG steering wheel with configurable rotary dials and AMG sports seats.

Mercedes-AMG SL 55 uses a 4.0L twin-turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 476PS of power between 5500rpm and 6500rpm and 700Nm of torque between 2250rpm and 4500rpm. The engine channels power to all 4 wheels via a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The 7th-gen SL is the first SL to feature 4-wheel-drive in the model’s history. Furthermore, the SL 55 also offers rear-wheel steering, which increases stability at high speeds and reduces the turning circle at low speeds.
