MG Windsor EV Waiting Stretches To 3 Months; Could Outsell All Other MGs Combined | V3Cars

MG recently confirmed to the media that they have received a total of 15,000+ bookings for the Windsor EV. We then reached out to a sales outlet and found that a fresh booking for the Windsor would carry an estimated 3-month waiting period.

This suggests that MG may have a planned initial production capacity of 5,000 units for the Windsor. Even if you assume a 20% cancellation rate, the production figure comes to 4,000 units a month for the rest of the 2024 calendar year.

In September 2024, MG shipped a total of 4,588 units in total, which is about the same as they dispatched in August 2024 (4,571 units). With such a strong demand, the MG Windsor could even outsell all other MG cars combined for the foreseeable future.

This estimation assumes that MG did produce some units in September 2024, which may be included in the figures for October 2024, thus helping the Windsor post a strong figure in October. Moreover, we are not expecting significant cancellations for the Windsor EV since the bookings commenced after the price announcement. Cancellation rates are higher when the product accumulates bookings well before the price reveal and the pricing ends up negatively shocking the buyers. For example: Maruti Jimny, Citroen Basalt and Nissan X-Trail.

Since the Windsor’s price details were out before the formal bookings started, we can safely assume that the Windsor didn’t get very many cancellations. Moreover, to really hit the competitors where it hurts, MG may have even redirected resources from other cars to help ramp up production for the Windsor. Therefore, it could very well outsell all other MG cars combined. So, 15,000 bookings with a 3-month waiting period is: 15,000/3 = 5,000 units per month in Oct, Nov, Dec 2024.
