What Are The Pros And Cons Of The 2025 Kia Clavis EV?

The pros or advantages of Kia Clavis EV 2025 are:

  • Finally an affordable electric MPV with a reasonable starting price of under Rs. 20.0 lakh
  • Reasonably loaded mid variant with combination of ADAS and smaller battery pack
  • Proven tech based on tremendous expertise gained from Hyundai’s Kona EV, Creta Electric and other electric cars should offer superior long-term reliability compared to other electric cars

The 2025 Kia Clavis EV has the following shortcomings or problems:

  • While ARAI range of the Clavis EV may be higher than Creta Electric, be prepared to expect lower range in the real-world driving as Clavis is designed to ferry a higher number of occupants and thus carry more load
  • Upgrade cost for larger battery pack is too high
  • For buyers who just want a car with larger battery pack, even within the Hyundai-Kia family, the Creta Electric offers it for Rs. 1.0 lakh less; and the Creta EV is already overpriced compared to its rivals
  • No lifetime warranty on battery pack — 8-year or 1,60,000km is the max you will get while Tata are offering 15-year unlimited kilometre warranty on battery pack along with minimum 80% battery health
  • For only a little more money than the Clavis EV base model, you can buy a much better loaded Windsor EV top model with better range and a lot more features
  • NMC battery chemistry doesn’t have a charge cycle count as high as that of the LFP

What Is The Price Of Kia Clavis EV Variants?

The Kia Clavis is available in 3 variants — HTK Plus, HTX and HTX Plus. The base HTK Plus trim only gets a 42kWh battery pack option and it costs Rs. 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

The HTX variant gets 2 battery pack options — 42kWh and 51.4kWh, and they cost Rs. 20.49 lakh and Rs. 22.49 lakh, respectively. This confirms that the larger battery pack is Rs. 2.0 lakh pricier than the smaller one.

The top spec HTX Plus variant is only available with the larger 51.4kWh battery pack and it costs Rs. 24.49 lakh, ex-showroom.

Battery heating*

*Based on Creta Electric specs; both cars share the powertrains and battery pack options

In this variant, you may miss features like:

  • Auto wipers
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Power driver seat
  • V2V/V2L (at least larger battery pack should get this feature)

Clavis HTX variant offers a long list of features for a reasonable incremental asking price of just Rs. 2.0 lakh. With the smaller battery pack, this is our top recommendation.

If you frequently drive in areas with below freezing temperatures, then the larger battery pack’s battery heating function will help you with optimum performance and range in poor weather. Also, if you absolutely need the longer range for your driving situation, then you should consider buying the HTX variant with the larger battery pack. However, note that the Rs. 2.0 lakh asking price for a 9.4kWh larger battery capacity is too high and this drops its VFM score to 82%. So, be prepared to sacrifice on the value front for the longer range.

Kia Clavis EV HTX vs HTX Plus Variants — Price, Feature Comparison

The HTX Plus variant is only available with the larger battery pack and it costs Rs. 24.49 lakh, which is Rs. 2.0 lakh more than the lower HTX variant.

Even in the top variant,  you may miss features like 6-way power driver seats with memory. Otherwise, this trim is reasonably loaded. Considering the short list of additional features over the lower variant, this variant is also not a value upgrade. In fact, it has the lowest value for money score among all Carens EV trim options and it’s not recommended.

Which Variant Of The Kia Clavis EV Should You Buy?

Among the 3 variants of the Kia Carens EV, the base model is suitably loaded and worth considering for budget buyers. The next, HTX variant, adds a bunch of features like panoramic sunroof and ADAS, which may or may not be must have based on your preferences. However, from a value perspective, the HTX trim with 42kWh battery pack is a solid upgrade and our top recommendation.

This variant is also available with the larger, 51.4kWh battery pack for an additional Rs. 2.0 lakh. This price is too high for what it’s offering and it only has a VFM score of 82%. Still, this is worth considering if your main priority is a longer range or if you frequently drive in cold regions with below freezing temperatures. The larger battery pack also gets heating, which helps with optimum range and performance in extremely cold weather conditions.

Moving further up the price band, the HTX Plus with larger battery pack only offers a few extra features for the Rs. 2.0 lakh higher price. This variant offers the worst value for money for the additional cost you’re paying for this trim over the base variant. The Clavis EV top model is not recommended.

The Kia Clavis EV offers the same battery pack options as the Hyundai Creta Electric with identical power and output figures but you can expect better real-world range from the Creta Electric as it’s not designed to ferry 7 occupants while the Clavis EV is. Even in terms of mileage, Creta offers the best mileage figures in the segment.

Against the larger battery pack electric SUVs, the Clavis has a respectable range but not something comparable with that of the BE6 79kWh, which can deliver closer to 500km on a full charge.
