The Hyundai Bayon HX8 CVT is our top-recommended Bayon automatic variant. Here, we compare it with the Skoda Kushaq Sportline DCT, the most affordable Kushaq with the 1.5L turbo petrol engine. Both fit an ex-showroom budget of around Rs. 17 lakh. The Bayon offers more comfort and parking equipment for less money, while the Kushaq delivers stronger performance. Does the Skoda’s engine justify its premium over our recommended Bayon automatic?

The Hyundai Bayon and Skoda Kushaq present different buying propositions at this budget. The HX8 CVT combines our preferred Bayon automatic variant’s equipment with a lower purchase price. The Sportline DCT gives buyers access to the Kushaq’s more powerful engine without stretching to its higher variants.
Their ex-showroom prices compare as follows:
*The Bayon’s price is introductory.
Both variants cover everyday requirements such as automatic AC, cruise control, wireless smartphone connectivity and rear-seat conveniences. Front parking sensors and rear disc brakes are also available in both.
The following table groups their common equipment:
The Bayon’s additional equipment centres on seating comfort and parking assistance. The Kushaq adds conveniences that reduce manual adjustments, including rain-sensing wipers and an auto-dimming mirror.
These are the key equipment differences:
The Bayon’s ventilated seats can make hot-weather journeys more comfortable. Its powered driver seat and reclining rear seatback also offer more adjustment and comfort. The 360-degree camera and side parking sensors can help when judging clearances in tight spaces.
The Kushaq’s automatic wipers and auto-dimming mirror reduce the need for manual intervention. Its larger instrument display is another useful advantage.
The Kushaq’s turbo petrol engine is the strongest reason to pay its premium. It produces more torque and reaches its peak output much earlier in the RPM range. This should help when overtaking or driving with passengers and luggage.
Their engine specifications and claimed mileage figures compare below:
The Kushaq’s advantages amount to 35PS and 106Nm. Its claimed mileage is also slightly higher, although the difference is just 0.12kmpl. The stronger engine therefore gives the Skoda a clearer advantage than the mileage figures suggest.
Delhi’s petrol price is Rs. 102.12/litre as of writing this comparison. The Kushaq’s small claimed mileage advantage leaves little scope to recover its higher purchase price through fuel savings. The monthly estimates below illustrate this:
Costs and savings are rounded independently to the nearest rupee. These calculations use claimed mileage; actual expenses depend on the mileage achieved.
At 1500km per month, the Kushaq’s theoretical fuel saving is around Rs. 630 per year. That is too small to justify its purchase-price premium by itself.
The Bayon’s extra width is worth checking against a narrow parking bay, while its higher ground clearance offers more margin on uneven roads. Their lengths and heights are closely matched.
The following table compares their dimensions, luggage capacity and tyres:
#Hyundai claim a 505L boot capacity for the Bayon with no spare tyre fitted. The HX8 CVT comes with a spare tyre, and Hyundai have not published its boot capacity separately.
The Kushaq earned 5 stars for both adult and child occupant protection in Global NCAP’s 2022 assessment. The India-spec Bayon currently has no published Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP rating. Hyundai describe it as engineered for 5-star Indian safety standards.
Their standard warranty terms compare as follows:
The Kushaq’s standard warranty ends when either its time or distance limit is reached. Its ownership package also includes 4 years of roadside assistance and 4 labour-free services. These services cover labour charges rather than the entire service bill.
The Hyundai Bayon HX8 CVT is our pick for buyers seeking more equipment for their money. It costs Rs. 45,100 less and includes ventilated front seats, powered driver-seat adjustment, a reclining rear seatback and a panoramic sunroof. Its 360-degree camera, dashcam and additional side parking sensors further strengthen its value proposition.
Choose the Skoda Kushaq Sportline DCT if stronger performance is your priority. Its additional 35PS and 106Nm give you a clear reason to spend more. The larger instrument display, automatic wipers and auto-dimming mirror are useful conveniences, while its longer standard warranty adds another ownership advantage.
