Let’s first look at the prices of both the cars for the petrol-manual powertrain.
With the petrol-manual powertrain, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno’s prices start at Rs. 6.56 lakh and top out at Rs. 9.28 lakh. The Tata Nexon’s petrol-manual range costs between Rs. 7.79 lakh and Rs. 12.35 lakh.
The Baleno petrol-automatic is available in 3 variants, with prices ranging from Rs. 7.95 lakh to Rs. 9.83 lakh. The Nexon’s 14 petrol-automatic variants cost between Rs. 9.45 lakh and Rs. 12.99 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno is not available with a diesel-manual powertrain. The Nexon diesel-manual is available in 14 variants, with prices ranging from Rs. 9.99 lakh to Rs. 13.69 lakh.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno is not available with a diesel-automatic powertrain. The Nexon diesel-automatic is available in 12 variants, with prices ranging from Rs. 11.39 lakh to Rs. 14.35 lakh.
With the CNG-manual powertrain, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno’s prices start at Rs. 8.30 lakh and top out at Rs. 9.23 lakh. Tata does not offer the Nexon with any CNG engine options.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is a hatchback while the Tata Nexon is an SUV. The Baleno is 3990mm long, 1745mm wide and 1500mm tall. The Baleno’s wheelbase is 2520mm long. The Nexon measures 3993mm long, 1811mm wide and 1606mm tall and has a wheelbase measuring 2489mm. In terms of dimensions, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is significantly smaller than the Tata Nexon. So, the Nexon will offer a stronger road presence than the Baleno.
The Baleno has a ground clearance of 170mm while the Nexon has a ground clearance of 209mm. The 318-litre boot space of the Baleno is 32 litres smaller than that of the Nexon.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno only gets a 1.2L normal petrol engine, which is available with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT automatic transmission. The Baleno’s 1.2L normal petrol engine makes 90PS of power at 6000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 4400rpm.
The Tata Nexon is only available with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine, which is available with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT automatic transmission. The Nexon’s 1.2L turbo petrol engine makes 120PS of power at 5500rpm and 170Nm of torque between 1750rpm and 4000rpm.
The Tata Nexon only gets a 1.5L turbo diesel engine, which is available with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT automatic transmission. The Nexon’s turbo diesel engine makes 110PS of power at 4000rpm and 260Nm of torque between 1500rpm and 2750rpm.
The Baleno’s 1.2L normal CNG engine makes 77PS of power at 6000rpm and 98Nm of torque at 4300rpm.
